At the Wednesday evening budget meeting of Windsor City Council, Arnie Blaine, who is the Chair of the Ottawa Street BIA, appeared before council to point out that Ottawa Street has not seen any city funding for repairs in years.
Blaine pointed out that the City has spent millions doing downtown over and over again, but that the Ottawa Street BIA has received nothing. He pointed out that there was a time the city would plant flowers along the street, but those days are long gone. Broken curbs, missing interlock and dated street furniture are also issues.
Mayor Eddie Francis pledged to look into this matter himself, and said he would call a meeting with the BIA in the coming weeks. At the end of council he also asked for a $500,000 place holder for this project. A report will come to council in weeks on what steps can be taken to improve the condition of the BIA.
Take a look at pictures taken Wednesday evening, and see the condition for yourself.
