To commemorate the 100th anniversary of the  Windsor Federation of Musicians, a year long display, entitled “100 Years of Music” will be exhibited at the Windsor Community Museum. The exhibit opened back in February, but you have until the end of 2011 to get to the museum and check it out.

The antique-looking building housing the community museum is the historic Francois Baby house, located at 254 Pitt Street West. The collection is expected to consist of musical instruments, video histories of local musicians, posters, recordings, photographs and memorabilia of the past 100 years. The series  will show the history of Windsor’s music and musicians as a cross border city.  Part of the collection that’s being talked about is the material from the late Wally Townsend, a pianist and employee of the historic Windsor radio station CKLW-AM that was formed in 1933.

The museum, which is a time capsule of Windsor’s past and present, contains artifacts dating from as early as 3000 B.C, and is the perfect place to present the musical talent and creativity we have in our own backyard.  The Windsor Federation of Musicians received assistance for the exhibit from the Department of Canadian Heritage’s Building Communities through Arts & Heritage program.  The Department is also supporting a series of celebration concerts being held in downtown Windsor during the summer.  The exhibit is a free event inviting all those interested in the local music scene to come see the past inspirations of the music in the Rose City.
