Last night at the WFCU Center, the Windsor Spitfires (21-12-0-1) lost 5-3 to the OHL’s Western Conference leader in points, the Saginaw Spirit (23-7-3-1). This loss broke Windsor’s six game winning streak. Santa was in attendance to do the ceremonial puck drop. By halfway through the second period, the Spirit had managed to rack up a 3-0 lead. The Spit’s Craig Duininck added a lone pair of goals in the second and early third period to add to make it 3-2 for the Spirit.
Despite Windsor’s comeback effort, Saginaw captain Szwarz added a pair of goals in the second half of the third period, to make the final score 5-2. Saginaw’s goalie Mavric Parks stopped 43 of the 45 shots Windsor fired at him, while Saginaw only managed 25 shots on Windsor’s Troy Passingham. Parks was a big reason for the loss, making several great saves.
The Spits now are on a 10 day break before going on the road to Kitchener on December 29th, and take on Erie at home on New Year’s Eve at 2 PM.
