This past weekend was the second set of auditions for a short film that will be shot this summer in the Windsor area.
Essex County native Gene Marie is taking her first shot at film making with Lay Bare, a short film adapted from her novel Silk. The story focuses on a young man, Julien, who is attempting to deal with the suicide of his girlfriend, Michaela.
Lay Bare puts the issue of suicide in a different light, with characters feeling the need to prevent future suicides, rather than simply wallowing in the grief of their own loss.
Writer/director Gene Marie is working to create something that sounds and looks completely, experimentally, new, and makes a difference at the same time. She is hoping to raise awareness and help with suicide prevention in Windsor-Essex and across Canada.
Over these last few sessions she has auditioned a number of very talented actors, some coming from Toronto and Michigan for their chance to take part. A special thanks goes out to The Malden Community and Cultural Centre and The Jackman Centre for the Dramatic Arts at The University of Windsor for donating space where auditions were held.
As an independent filmmaker, Gene is looking for any sort of help that the community might have to offer. If you’re interested in becoming involved, or would just like to learn more about the project, visit any of the sites below.
