For those of you who don’t frequent downtown and our local music scene, this article is for you!
You may have heard the buzz online over Funnelfest 2.0, the main event that went down last weekend at the Loop complex in downtown Windsor. You may have seen the photos and wondered what this festival was all about. Don’t fret – after reading this article, you’ll be up to speed about a tragic event that brought a community closer together.
First, you have to understand who Scott Funnel is and what he has done for our community.
For more than a decade, Scott Funnel has been a pillar in the local music scene. He’s been a bartender at the Coach & Horses. He books bands and organizes shows for local and out of town talent. He’s been a part of the music scene and a singer in several bands over the years. He’s the kindest, likable and fun person you could ever know. Most importantly, he is a friend.
In early November, Scott was the victim of a random and brutal attack resulting in two major brain surgeries and months of recovery time.
Windsor’s music community was shocked and horrified when we heard the news about the attack. How could this happen to such a stand up guy?
What’s unique and admirable about Windsor’s music scene is that instead of resorting to retaliation, we came together in support for our beloved friend.
Within 24 hours, Funnelfest 2.0 was born. It seems that everyone who has ever been in contact with Scott was pouring in with donations of time, money, gifts and talent.
Scott Funnel’s contributions to the community would be celebrated and recognized.
Musicians, friends, family and co-workers came together to create one of Windsor’s biggest community events.
Funnelfest – a benefit show for Scott Funnel – featured 36 bands, a bake sale, a raffle of donations and fun over two days. The event was amazing. The music was stellar, the food was delicious and the atmosphere was unbelievable. It really was mind-blowing. I’ve never witnessed so much love from so many people in one room. Ever.
If you missed Funnelfest, don’t worry. You still have the chance to become part of this monumental community event.
