From an earth quake in Montreal to a tornado in Michigan, Mother Nature was showing her excitement for the show at Phog Lounge all day.
Welsh Cinema, a three piece from Newfoundland opened the show with a great set. They have been on tour since the beginning of May. Pre-show, the members socialized with other bar patrons and were quite entertaining even without instruments in hand.
Nightwood was up next. Another three piece, from Montreal, they two thirds of the way through a three week tour, and are getting ready to head home. Touring on their album Carta Marina, and promoting a zine about touring as a band, they brought their all. Combining double female vocals and some incredible lyrics with amazing musical talent, they kept everyone wanting more. After a borrowed guitar due to a broken string, shouts of Encore and One more song were ringing through the building.
Local favourites, The Locusts Have No King closed up the show with a great set. For all the years I’ve been going to shows, I’ve never heard this band play. I am definitely regretting it.
