A report has come back answering Council Halberstad’s council question on April 26, 2010 about creating the position of Deputy Mayor and how Council would go about it.
The report states that in order to appoint a member of council to act as a Deputy Mayor, it is a requirement of the Municipal Act that consent of the head of council must first be obtained before the appointment is made.
Eddie Francis as mayor is also the Head of Council. If the initial consent is not obtained, then the process to establish a Deputy Mayor position cannot proceed.
The report written by administration is for information only, and does not recommend creating this position.
