Freon Leak Closes Chatham Street Downtown

Emergency crews were on hand downtown this afternoon to check out a freon leak that closed down a section of Chatham from Ouellette to Goyeau. The owners of a new bar opening beside Mick’s Irish Pub, to be called Turf, were attempting to dispose of an old air conditioning unit. Apparently, some of the chemical from the unit spilled, and fire, police and the EMS were all called in as a precaution. It’s not known if there were any injuries caused by the contaminate.
