The owners and operators of the Ambassador Bridge are taking steps to move forward with their proposed Ambassador Bridge Enhancement Project.
That includes constructing and operating a replacement bridge across the Detroit River, rehabilitating the Canadian approach to the bridge and expanding the Windsor customs plaza.
A project application has been submitted to the Minister of Transport, as is required by the International Bridges and Tunnels Act.
The proposed Canadian plaza will be increased by 9.5 acres with the CBSA commercial offices, inspection bays and VACIS all on site. There will be dedicated FAST lanes and improved traffic flow.
The current original span will be maintained for special events and emergencies.
Transport Canada is looking for the public to comment on the proposed project.
Residents have 60 days to voice their input on the proposal.
