Kids at St. Gabriel Catholic Elementary School passed non-perishable foods items along a human chain on Thursday morning to help feed families in Windsor-Essex.
St. Gabriel’s social justice group organized the can drive for their school in cooperation with Free The Children’s We Scare Hunger campaign.
Free The Children is an international charity organization that educates and engages youth to become active local and global citizens.
The We Scare Hunger campaign specifically engages schools to organize can drives and donate to families in need.
At St. Gabriel, the students collected non-perishable foods throughout the month of October. The students exceeded their goal by collecting more than 4,000 cans for the Downtown Mission.
All students participated by forming a human chain from one side of the school to the other.
One-by-one the food items were passed down and put into a truck while the students sang ‘hot potato’.
