Sunflower Organic Café specializes in serving organically prepared breakfasts and lunches.
The cozy café, located at 1285 Ottawa Street, makes all their meals using 100% organic ingredients and utilize local farmers as much as possible. Their menu caters towards customers with special dietary needs, such as being gluten intolerant, and has several vegetarian and vegan options.
Owner Patricia Julian first got the idea for the café when a family member was diagnosed with cancer and was recommended to start a meal plan consisting of organic foods, including whole grains, fruits and vegetables. The process of learning to acquire the proper food items and cook them into appetizing meals was a struggle at first, but inspired Julian to open the Sunflower Organic Café.
Some of their menu items include Vegan Apple Cinnamon Buckwheat Pancakes, Baby Bella Mushroom and Cheese Omelette, Waldorf Chicken Salad Wrap (made with free range chicken), and a selection of raw juices and smoothies.
The café offers a place for people leading a healthy lifestyle to enjoy a meal they know is organic, gluten-free, and vegan or vegetarian. Customers can dine-in or pick-up a meal to-go. They also offer catering for small gatherings and can rent the café for small parties, such as wedding or baby showers.
The whole café’s outlook is to be as environmentally friendly as possible, using recyclable take-out containers and acquiring all the necessities to open the business – such as furniture and dishware – at local thrift shops. The resulting look of the café is very cozy and unique with a friendly home-kitchen atmosphere.
