The Goodwill Bookstore opened its doors to the public in January.
The second hand bookstore is located next to the Goodwill Donation Centre at 298 Lauzon Road. The shop is bright, spacious and meticulously organized.
Half the store is dedicated to their extensive collection of non-fiction books. While all the materials are acquired through donation, donations are sorted so that the books and other media in the best condition are placed on the shelves – many appearing brand new.
The other half of the store holds categorized fiction books, including hardcovers, paperbacks, classics, Young Adult and Middle Grade books and a large children’s area. The store also carries a small selection of audio books, CDs, DVDs and video games. You can even find vintage books at a fraction of the cost than other second hand bookstores.
The shop is attended to with care, noticeable through the level of organization and special touches – such as an aquarium in the children’s section, a shelf of selected “gift” books and a display of staff picks.
New items are coming in everyday – so no two visits will ever be the same. You never know what literary treasure you might find on your next visit.
Proceeds from the bookstore go towards the Goodwill’s commitment to making a difference in people’s lives through employment programs and services to help people with employment barriers, educate the public on predatory lending practices, and reach out to at-risk youth. The Goodwill operates stores that provide jobs and training in the retail environment and are currently working on building the region’s biggest Goodwill centre at 1643 McDougall Street. You can donate goods at Windsor’s Attended Donation Centres located next to the bookstore at 298 Lauzon or at 3799 Tecumseh Road East.
The Goodwill Bookstore (298 Lauzon) is open Monday through Friday from 10am – 6pm, Saturday from 9am – 6pm and Sunday from 12pm -5pm. You can reach them at 519-946-0296 or visit their Facebook Group.
