Local restaurant Motor Burger has re-released a popular blueberry ale under their craft brewery banner, Motor Craft Ales.
Déjà Blue is a beer featuring the flavour of locally grown blueberries from Klassen Blueberries and a hint of lavender from Serenity Lavender Farm. The blueberries give the ale a distinct red colour while not overpowering the taste.
This is the second year for the seasonal ale, which is produced in a 12×12 room below the dining room floor of Motor Burger on Erie Street.
In 2012, restaurant website WindsorEats organized a farm tour with Motor Burger to introduce local restaurateurs, Gino Gesuale and Jay Souilliere, to various producers in the area and open the door to the possibilities of using locally grown products within their establishment.
WindsorEats connected city and county, bringing together local restaurant Motor Burger with the two local growers, creating a Windsor-Essex focused beer.
Déjà Blue is currently only available at Motor Burger, where the craft brewery in the cellar produces around 80 litres of various ales per day, but the owners are transitioning to a manufacturing licence which will allow them to keep up with demand of around 450 litres per week.
You can find Motor Burger at 888 Erie Street East in Windsor. Déjà Blue is on tap now.
