The Book Room, located at 2161 Wyandotte Street West

When walking into the quaint cosiness of The Book Room, the smell in the air speaks volumes: books, and lots of them. Located at 2161 Wyandotte Street West, near the University of Windsor, and open Tuesday to Sunday from 12pm-6pm, it presents the opportunity for readers – children, students and adults alike – to find their genre, and perhaps discover another.

“It’s the only independent used and new book store in Windsor,” says Anne Beer, owner of The Book Room for nearly 24 years. “The store will be 24 years old in March.”

Though the store itself is but a quarter century old, the books tell a different tale. Some of the books are older than the store, and it adds different readings for different generations. Shelf upon shelf, books fill them to the top. New books and older books, the variety is plenty. “There’s a little bit of everything.”

There are children books, romance novels, how-to instructionals, and much more. Entirely, there are 42 different sections, including poetry and a vast reading collection of Canadian politics and history. A poster on the door notes “Nous avons près de mille livres d’occasion français dans notre librairie,” which translates to “There are close to a thousand French books in their library.”

With so many genres to choose from, the hundreds of books are waiting to be read.
