Windsor’s Silver City movie theatre will be closing sooner than originally announced, the company confirmed Tuesday morning.
“I can confirm that SilverCity Windsor Cinemas will not reopen after the government mandated closures end on Monday, January 31,” said Cineplex director of communications Melissa Pressacco. “This type of decision was not taken lightly, and is based on a pre-pandemic analysis of the theatre’s performance.”
The theatre was originally schedule to close at the end of 2022 when Cineplex’s lease on the building ends.
Pressacco says movie lovers are gravitating towards the newer amenities at nearby Cineplex Odeon Devonshire Mall Cinemas location.
“This theatre offers enhanced movie experiences that our guests love such as full recliner seating, UltraAVX and D-BOX Motion seats,” she said. “We know our guests want to escape into the magic of the big screen, so I am pleased to share that we are working in partnership with IMAX to bring the IMAX experience to our Devonshire location as soon as possible.”
Pressacco says Cineplex thanks the community for their support of Silver City over the years. She says where possible, the theatre’s existing employees will be offered employment at the Devonshire location.
