Health Unit COVID-19 Cases & Outbreaks Update From The Last 6 Days

The Windsor Essex County Health Unit announced 993 new cases of COVID-19 in Windsor and Essex County from the holiday break.

The Health Unit has not reported cases and outbreak data since Thursday December 23rd.

New & Total Cases

Of the 993 new cases:

  • 162 cases were reported on December 24th
  • 122 cases were reported on December 25th
  • 107 cases were reported on December 26th
  • 262 cases were reported on December 27th
  • 153 cases were reported on December 28th
  • 187 cases were reported on December 29th

The Health Unit says 153 cases are close contacts of confirmed cases, 114 cases are community acquired, 6 cases are outbreak related, 10 cases are travel related, and the acquisition sources of 710 cases are still under investigation.

Total overall cases increased from 23,713 on Thursday December 23rd to 24,706 on Wednesday December 29th.

There are 1125 cases of COVID-19 currently active in Windsor-Essex (increase of 578 cases since Thursday).

Vaccinations

Here’s the Health Unit’s vaccination update for today (residents of Windsor-Essex):

  • 357,772 people have received at least one dose of a vaccine (+14,505 since Thursday)
    • 24,769 people have received only their first dose of a vaccine (+3,677 since Thursday)
    • 333,003 people have received both doses of a vaccine (+10,828 since Thursday)
    • 113,825 people have received a 3rd dose/booster shot of a vaccine (+20,639 since Thursday)
  • A total of 804,600 vaccine doses have been administered to Windsor-Essex County residents (+45,972 since Thursday)

Vaccination Percentages

  • 81.6 per cent of Windsor-Essex residents (all ages) have received at least one dose of a vaccine (increase of 3.3 per cent since Thursday)
    • 86.7 per cent of Windsor-Essex residents (ages 5+) have received at least one dose of a vaccine (increase of 3.5 per cent since Thursday)
  • 76.0 per cent of Windsor-Essex residents (all ages) are fully vaccinated (increase of 2.5 per cent since Thursday)
    • 80.7 per cent of Windsor-Essex residents (ages 5+) are fully vaccinated (increase 2.7 per cent since Thursday)
  • 25.9 per cent of Windsor-Essex residents (all ages) have received a 3rd dose/booster shot of a vaccine (increase of 4.7 per cent since Thursday)

Note: The Health Unit says 438,001 people are living in Windsor and Essex County presently.

The Health Unit lists 23,093 total resolved cases.

That’s an increase of 415 resolved cases since Thursday.

Deaths

There have been no additional deaths from COVID-19 and the local death toll stands at 488.

Hospitalizations

The Health Unit lists 17 hospitalizations today: 10 people in acute care (decrease of 6), and 7people in the ICU (decrease of 4) with confirmed cases of COVID-19 in Windsor Essex.
