Health Unit COVID-19 Cases & Outbreaks Update From The Weekend

The Windsor Essex County Health Unit announced 263 new cases of COVID-19 in Windsor and Essex County from over the weekend. The Health Unit does not report case counts and statistics on weekends but provides a weekend summary.
New & Total Cases
- Note: 264 cases were reported since Friday but the Health Unit says due to routine data cleaning and case review a net increase of 263 cases was observed.
- Of the new cases: 99 were reported on December 11th, 98 were reported on December 12th, and 67 were reported on December 13th.
The Health Unit says 116 cases are close contacts of confirmed cases, 67 cases are community acquired, 2 cases are outbreak related, 1 case is travel related, and the acquisition sources of 78 cases are still under investigation.
Total overall cases increased from 22,587 on Friday December 10th to 22,850 on Monday December 13th.
There are 621 cases of COVID-19 currently active in Windsor-Essex (increase of 49 since Friday).
Vaccinations
Here’s the Health Unit’s vaccination update for today (residents of Windsor-Essex):
- 340,182 people have received at least one dose of a vaccine (+1,352 since Friday)
- 20,183 people have received only their first dose of a vaccine (+735 since Friday)
- 319,999 people have received both doses of a vaccine (+617 since Friday)
- 49,984 people have received a 3rd dose/booster shot of a vaccine (+5,787 since Friday)
- A total of 710,165 vaccine doses have been administered to Windsor-Essex County residents (+7,756 since Friday)
Vaccination Percentages
- 77.6 per cent of Windsor-Essex residents (all ages) have received at least one dose of a vaccine (increase of 0.3 per cent since Friday)
- 82.4 per cent of Windsor-Essex residents (ages 5+) have received at least one dose of a vaccine (increase of 0.3 per cent since Friday)
- 73.0 per cent of Windsor-Essex residents (all ages) are fully vaccinated (increase of 0.1 per cent since Friday)
- 77.6 per cent of Windsor-Essex residents (ages 5+) are fully vaccinated (increase of 0.2 per cent since Friday)
- 11.4 per cent of Windsor-Essex residents (all ages) have received a 3rd dose/booster shot of a vaccine (increase of 1.4 per cent since Friday)
Note: The Health Unit says 438,001 people are living in Windsor and Essex County presently.

The Health Unit lists 21,750 total resolved cases.
That’s an increase of 214 resolved cases since Friday.
Deaths
There have been no additional deaths from COVID-19 and the local death toll stands at 479.
Hospitalizations
The Health Unit lists 34 hospitalizations today: 20 people in acute care (increase of 2), and 14 people in the ICU with confirmed cases of COVID-19 in Windsor Essex.
