When the International Freedom Festival went bankrupt, it left a void on both sides of the border. In Windsor, Summer Fest was launched, and over in Detroit, River Days was born.
River Days is held right across the river from Dieppe Park from June 23rd to June 26th and will feature events such as the Tall Ships Appledore IV & V visit and the MGM Grand parade of Lights on Boats along the riverfront.
This year, both festivals are joining up to host a few events together, bringing back the feel of the International Freedom Festival.
One of those events is the Tug Across the River will take place on June 24th. This is a International competition between firefighters from Windsor and Detroit. In past years since the Freedom Fest folded, this event was held in mid July, but now its back as part of the two nation celebration.
Of course the one event that kicks off the summer season, the Target Fireworks will light up the sky on Monday June 27 at 10:06 pm.
