Windsor humanitarian Frank Chauvin has passed away at the age of 81.

For 33 years Chauvin served the community as a police officer, but it was after he retired that Chauvin committed his time to serving the poor.

He was the founding Director of an orphanage in Haiti and also worked with Canadian Food For Children sending food monthly to 16 Third World countries. He also did extensive work with the Holy Name of Mary Food Fund.

In 1998, Chauvin was appointed and served as a provincial Citizenship and Immigration Court Judge.

In 2007, he worked to convince Windsor city council to unanimously designate St. Rose Church a heritage building after it was closed by the Diocese of London.

In 1987, he was awarded the Order of Canada, but he rescinded the accolade in 2009, protesting Henry Morgentaler’s appointment to the Order

Together with his wife Lorrain they had ten children, 22 grandchildren and 8 great-grandchildren.

Visiting will take place at the Windsor Chapel Funeral Home on Banwell on Monday, March 16th from 2pm to 5pm and 7pm to 9pm and Tuesday, March 17th from 2pm to 5pm and & 7pm to 9pm.

The funeral will be at Our Lady of Guadalupe Church, located at 834 Raymo Road on Wednesday, March 18th, 2015 with visitation at 10am until the funeral at 11am.
