The Harrow Fair is giving families one final chance to enjoy summer before the kids head back-to-school on Tuesday.
The 160th Harrow Fair kicked off Thursday night and will run through Sunday evening. David Hernandez, director of grains, seeds, fruits and vegetables of the Harrow Fair, said while the fair has evolved over the years some things don’t need improvement.
“I’ll tell you how it’s remained the same,” said Hernandez. “It’s remained a family fair, and that’s key to us, we’ve always been a farm fair. We have a lot of agriculture in which we’re involved and we have things for kids of all ages which we’re really interested in.”
Carter Shows is running the midway at the fair again this year, but there’s more than just rides and carnival food. Three barns are set up with an assortment of art, cattle, poultry and rabbits. Hernandez said they also have a plastic cow set up this year for the little ones to “milk.” He said it’s all about the children having fun, that’s what running a fair has always been about.
“When they [the parents and grandparents] see the kids enjoying themselves so much, just like I see people enjoying themselves, it just brings everybody back time and time again,” said Hernandez. “They just love it.”
Entertainment included a performance by Stay Tuned on Thursday evening and Aaron Pritchett on Friday. Tonight The Stellas hit the stage at 8:00 p.m. and will be followed by Paying Cash in Sunday at 1:00 p.m.
“I’ve been in this fair for years and years,” said Hernandez. “I’ve been involved since I was a kid, entering chickens in the fairs myself … I entered pickles, I’ve entered fruits and vegetables, I’ve entered so many things just to get involved and then I encourage others to get involved. It’s just kind of fed itself you know. We just love it.”
