The WindsorEssex Community Foundation joined the Essex County Library Friday afternoon as they celebrated Library Week with the introduction of MIKe the Bike to the community.
MIKe the Bike is a Wi-Fi-enabled three-wheeled bike which allows the library to provide a digital solution, offering its services by hitting the trails and connecting our communities. This project is one of over 1000 projects taking place across Canada through the $60-million dollar Healthy Communities Initiative, helping communities adapt to the COVID-19 pandemic and creating safe ways for residents to enjoy the outdoors.
It is funded by the Government of Canada’s Healthy Communities Initiative, in partnership with Community Foundations of Canada and the WindsorEssex Community Foundation. The Essex County Library received a $20,000 investment through the Canada Healthy Communities Initiative for MIKe the Bike, one of over 1,000 projects taking place across Canada, including in every province and territory.
“The Essex County library is pleased to introduce the community to its new ‘Mobile Information Kiosk’ (lovingly referred to as ‘MIKe the Bike’), made possible by the support of the Government of Canada’s Healthy Communities Initiative. This Initiative has presented the library with an excellent opportunity to get out and re-introduce itself to the community. We’re looking forward to getting out to visit the County’s beautiful parks, trails and outdoor events and to engage with residents who might not know who we are and what we do.” Adam Craig, Chief Librarian and CEO of the Essex County Library
