When kids head back to school in a few weeks, and buses are again on the city and county roads, you will notice something new on them.
Over the summer, school buses will be equipped with updated overhead amber signal lights on the back and front.
The new flashing overhead amber lights mean that the bus is slowing down and is coming to a stop to pick up or drop off students. When you see a school bus slowing down with its overhead amber signal lights flashing, slow down and be prepared to stop.
Once you see a school bus stopped with its overhead red lights flashing, you must stop. It is a $490 fine and six demerit points if a driver runs a school bus with its red lights flashing and stop sign out.
