Health Unit COVID-19 Cases & Outbreaks Update From The Long Weekend

The Windsor Essex County Health Unit announced 508 new high risk cases of COVID-19 in Windsor and Essex County from over the Easter weekend. The Health Unit does not report case counts and statistics on weekends but provides a weekend summary. Testing is still limited to high risk individuals only the province estimates actual COVID-19 cases are around 10 times higher than what is being reported.

Total Cases & Active Cases

Total overall cases increased from 41,492 on Thursday, April 14th to 42,003 on Tuesday, April 19th.

There are 333 high-risk cases of COVID-19 currently active in Windsor-Essex (decrease of 72 active high-risk cases since Thursday).

Vaccinations

Here’s the Health Unit’s vaccination update for today (residents of Windsor-Essex).

• 356,804 people have received at least one dose of a vaccine (+53 since Thursday)
• 345,032 people have received both doses of a vaccine (+113 since Thursday)
• 194,784 people have received a 3rd dose/booster shot of a vaccine (+332 since Thursday)

Vaccination Percentages

• 86.5 per cent of Windsor-Essex residents (ages 5+) have received at least one dose of a vaccine (increase of 0.1 per cent since Thursday)
• 83.6 per cent of Windsor-Essex residents (ages 5+) are fully vaccinated (increase of 0.1 per cent since Thursday)
• 51.3 per cent of Windsor-Essex residents (ages 18+) have received a 3rd dose/booster (increase of 0.1 per cent since Thursday)

Deaths

There have been no additional deaths from COVID-19 and the local death toll stands at 598.

Hospitalizations

The Health Unit lists 59 hospitalizations today (increase of 2), and 3 of those hospitalizations are in the ICU (increase of 1).
