Health Unit COVID-19 Cases & Outbreaks Update For Wednesday

The Windsor Essex County Health Unit announced 121 new high risk cases of COVID-19 in Windsor and Essex County on Wednesday. Testing is still limited to high risk individuals only the province estimates actual COVID-19 cases are around 10 times higher than what is being reported.

Total Cases & Active Cases

Total overall cases increased from 42,003 on Tuesday, April 19th to 42,156 on Wednesday, April 20th.

There are 396 high-risk cases of COVID-19 currently active in Windsor-Essex (increase of 63 active high-risk cases since yesterday).

Vaccinations

Here’s the Health Unit’s COVID-19 vaccination update for today (residents of Windsor-Essex).

• 356,844 people locally have received one dose of a vaccine (+40 since yesterday)
• 345,068 people locally have received a 2nd dose of a vaccine (+36 since yesterday)
• 194,899 people locally  have received a 3rd dose of a vaccine (+115 since yesterday)
• 10,270 people locally have received a 4th dose of a vaccine

Vaccination Percentages

• 86.5 per cent of Windsor-Essex residents (ages 5+) have received at least one dose of a vaccine (increase of < 0.1 per cent since yesterday)
• 83.6 per cent of Windsor-Essex residents (ages 5+) are fully vaccinated (increase of < 0.1 per cent since yesterday)
• 51.4 per cent of Windsor-Essex residents (ages 18+) have received a 3rd dose/booster (increase of 0.1 per cent since yesterday)

Deaths

The Health Unit announced six additional deaths from COVID-19 bringing the local death toll to 604. They say a woman in her 90s from the community, 1 woman and 1 man in their 80s from the community, a woman in her 70s from the community, a woman in her 60s from the community, and a  man in his 50s from the community passed away.

Hospitalizations

The Health Unit lists 58 hospitalizations today (decrease of 1), and 3 of those hospitalizations are in the ICU.
