Essex Council has appointed Steve Bjorkman to complete the current term as Deputy Mayor for the Town of Essex.

The decision was prompted by the appointment of Richard Meloche to fill the seat of Mayor on January 24th, 2022, leaving the position of Deputy Mayor vacant.

Following the appointment of Bjorkman, the position of Ward 3 Councillor became vacant. Council then called for a Special Meeting to be held on Monday, February 7th, 2022 to discuss further and decide how to fill this vacancy as required under the Municipal Act.

While Council has opted to fill this vacancy by appointment it will discuss further its various options as to how to make this appointment. Options expected to be discussed will include a “Call for Applications” process or a nomination process based on ether members from the community at large or the candidates from the 2018 Municipal election.
