Health Unit COVID-19 Cases & Outbreaks Update For Thursday

The Windsor Essex County Health Unit announced 18 new cases of COVID-19 in Windsor and Essex County on Thursday.
New & Total Cases
The Health Unit says 8 cases are close contacts of confirmed cases, 8 cases are community acquired, and the acquisition sources of 2 cases are still under investigation.
Total overall cases increased from 20,590 on Wednesday November 3rd to 20,608 on Thursday November 4th.
They say 176 cases of COVID-19 are currently active in Windsor-Essex (decrease of 7 since yesterday).
Variants of Concern
- 1,840 of the total variant cases to date have been the Alpha variant (B.1.1.7)
- 4 of the total variant cases to date have been the Beta variant (B.1.351)
- 16 of the total variant cases to date have been the Gamma variant (P.1)
- 2,985 of the total variant cases to date have been the Delta variant (B.1.617.2) (increase of 31)
- 2 of the total variant cases to date has been the Kappa variant (B.1.617.1)
The Health Unit says there is a time delay of several days between specimen collection, preliminary screening, and confirmation of a variant case’s strain. The numbers listed are not necessarily correlated to today’s new cases due to the delay.
Vaccinations
Here’s the Health Unit’s vaccination update for today (residents of Windsor-Essex):
- 325,665 people have received at least one dose of a vaccine (+202 since yesterday)
- 15,647 people have received only their first dose of a vaccine (-98 since yesterday)
- 310,018 people have received both doses of a vaccine (+300 since yesterday)
- 5,301 people have received a 3rd dose/booster shot of a vaccine (+83 since yesterday)
- A total of 640,984 vaccine doses have been administered to Windsor-Essex County residents (+585 since yesterday)
Vaccination Percentages
- 74.3 per cent of Windsor-Essex residents (all ages) have received at least one dose of a vaccine (increase of < 0.1 per cent since yesterday)
- 85.8 per cent of Windsor-Essex residents (ages 12+) have received at least one dose of a vaccine (increase of < 0.1 per cent since yesterday)
- 70.7 per cent of Windsor-Essex residents (all ages) are fully vaccinated (increase of < 0.1 per cent since yesterday)
- 81.7 per cent of Windsor-Essex residents (ages 12+) are fully vaccinated (increase of 0.1 per cent since yesterday)
Note: The Health Unit says 438,001 people are living in Windsor and Essex County presently.

The Health Unit lists 19,967 total resolved cases.
That’s an increase of 39 resolved cases since yesterday.
Deaths
The Health Unit announced one additional death from COVID-19 bringing the local death toll to 465. They say a woman in her 60s from the community passed away.
Hospitalizations
The Health Unit lists 9 hospitalizations today: 6 people in acute care, and 3 people in the ICU (decrease of 2) with confirmed cases of COVID-19 in Windsor Essex.
