51 New Cases Of COVID-19 In Windsor Essex On Wednesday

The Windsor Essex County Health Unit announced 51 new cases of COVID-19 in Windsor and Essex County on Wednesday.
New & Total Cases
The Health Unit says 5 cases are close contacts of confirmed cases, 6 cases are community acquired, 4 cases are outbreak related, and the acquisition sources of 36 cases are still under investigation.
Total overall cases increased from 18,179 on Tuesday August 31st to 18,230 on Wednesday September 1st.
They say 509 cases of COVID-19 are currently active in Windsor-Essex (decrease of 18 since yesterday).
Variants of Concern
The Health Unit says 2,994 preliminary or confirmed variant of concern cases have been identified to date (increase of 23 since yesterday).
Variant case strains:
- 1,834 of the total variant cases to date have been the Alpha / U.K. Variant (B.1.1.7)
- 4 of the total variant cases to date have been the Beta / South African Variant (B.1.351)
- 16 of the total variant cases to date have been the Gamma / Brazilian Variant (P.1)
- 978 of the total variant cases to date have been the Delta / Indian Variant (B.1.617.2) (increase of 21 since yesterday)
- 2 of the total variant cases to date has been the Kappa / Indian Variant (B.1.617.1)
The Health Unit says there is a time delay of several days between specimen collection, preliminary screening, and confirmation of a variant case’s strain. The numbers listed are not necessarily correlated to today’s new cases due to the delay.
Vaccinations
Here’s the Health Unit’s vaccination update for today (residents of Windsor-Essex):
- 300,781 people have received at least one dose of a vaccine (+412 since yesterday)
- 26,554 people have received only their first dose of a vaccine (-144 since yesterday) *
- 274,227 people have received both doses of a vaccine (+556 since yesterday)
- A total of 575,008 vaccine doses have been administered to Windsor-Essex County residents (+968 since yesterday)
* this number is decreasing as people who *only* received their first dose become people with two doses
Vaccination Percentages
- 68.67 per cent of Windsor-Essex residents (all ages) have received at least one dose of a vaccine
- 79.3 per cent of Windsor-Essex residents (ages 12+) have received at least one dose of a vaccine
- 62.60 per cent of Windsor-Essex residents (all ages) are fully vaccinated
- 72.3 per cent of Windsor-Essex residents (ages 12+) are fully vaccinated
