49 New Cases Of COVID-19, 2 New Deaths In Windsor Essex On Tuesday

The Windsor Essex County Health Unit announced 49 new cases of COVID-19 in Windsor and Essex County on Tuesday, bringing the local total to 14,893.

New Cases

Cases increased from 14,844 on Monday April 19th to 14,893 on Tuesday April 20th and 461 cases of COVID-19 are currently active in Windsor-Essex.

The Health Unit says 18 cases are close contacts of confirmed cases, 8 cases are community acquired, 1 case is travel related outside of North America, and the acquisition sources of 22 cases are still being investigated by the Health Unit’s nursing staff.

The Health Unit says 550 preliminary or confirmed variant of concern cases have been identified to date (an increase of 39 identified since yesterday). The Health Unit is now listing which variants have been identified and they say 477 of the variant cases to date have been the U.K. Variant (B.1.1.7), and 2 cases have been the South African Variant (B.1.351).

Vaccinations

Here’s the Health Unit’s vaccination update for today:

  • 123,069 people have received at least one dose of a vaccine (+3,794 since yesterday)
    • 109,849 people have received only their first dose of a vaccine (+3,280 since yesterday)
    • 13,220 people have received both doses of a vaccine (+514 since yesterday)
  • A total of 136,289 vaccine doses have been administered to Windsor-Essex County residents (+4,308 since yesterday)

How To Get A Vaccine

There are two vaccination programs at this time:

  • Mass Vaccination Clinics (Pfizer or Moderna)
    • Those eligible include:
      • Adults aged 50 and older living in “hot spot” postal code regions: N8X, N8Y, N9A, N9B, N9C, N8H, or N9Y
      • Adults aged 60 and older living anywhere in Windsor-Essex
      • Healthcare workers in the highest priority, very high priority or high priority groups
      • People with the highest risk, and high risk health conditions

    • Or you can call 226-773-2200 (but the Health Unit says the call centre is only for assisting people who can’t use the website and the call centre has the same access to appointments as what’s shown on the website)

Resolved Cases

The Health Unit lists 14,021 total resolved cases.

That’s an increase of 43 resolved cases since yesterday.

Deaths

The Health Unit announced two additional deaths from COVID-19 today bringing the local death toll to 411. They say a woman in her 70s from the community and a man in his 40s from the community passed away.

Hospitalizations

The Health Unit lists 17 hospitalizations today: 15 people in acute care (increase of 11 today), and 2 people in the ICU (decrease of 6 today) with confirmed cases of COVID-19 in Windsor Essex.
