113 New Cases Of COVID-19, 1 New Outbreak In Windsor Essex As Of Wednesday

The Windsor Essex County Health Unit has announced 113 new cases of COVID-19 as of Wednesday, bringing the local total to 5,012.

Cases increased from 4,899 on Tuesday December 15th to 5,012 on Wednesday December 16th and 890 cases of COVID-19 are currently active in Windsor-Essex.

The Health Unit says 27 cases are related to outbreaks, 5 cases are contacts of confirmed cases, 2 cases are community acquired, and 79 cases are still under investigation.

They say 4,031 people locally have recovered (an increase of 60 recoveries today).

There have no additional deaths from COVID-19 as of Wednesday and the local death toll stands at 91.

As of Wednesday, the Health Unit lists 57 hospitalizations: 45 people in acute care (an increase of 2 today), and 12 people in the ICU (an increase of 2 today) with confirmed cases of COVID-19 in Windsor Essex. They say 79 suspected cases are currently hospitalized and these cases are treated as positive until proven otherwise. Thirty-six hospitalizations are listed at Windsor Regional Hospital, and less than five hospitalizations are listed at Erie Shores hospital in Leamington.

Long-term Care / Retirement Home Outbreaks

As of Wednesday, there is one new outbreak and seven long-term care/retirement homes remain under outbreak:

  • La Chaumiere Retirement (Puce) has 0 resident cases and 1 staff case (new today)
  • Extendicare Tecumseh (Tecumseh) has 8 resident cases and 5 staff case (2 new resident cases, 4 new staff cases)
  • Berkshire Care Center (Windsor) has 16 resident case and 19 staff cases (15 new resident cases, 16 new staff cases)
  • The Village at St. Clair (Windsor) has 48 resident cases and 31 staff cases (5 new resident cases, 11 new staff cases)
  • Country Village (Woodslee) has 2 resident cases and 2 staff cases
  • Devonshire Retirement Residence (Windsor) has 0 resident cases and 1 staff case
  • Chartwell St. Clair Beach (Tecumseh) has 30 resident cases and 1 staff case (2 new resident cases)
  • Village of Aspen Lake (Windsor) has 1 resident case and 2 staff cases

Workplace Outbreaks

As of Wednesday, the following workplaces remain under outbreak:

  • 3 outbreaks at agri-farms in Leamington
  • 3 outbreaks at agri-farms in Kingsville
  • 1 outbreak at a health care and social assistance workplace in Lakeshore
  • 1 outbreak at a finance and insurance workplace in Leamington
  • 1 outbreak at a manufacturing facility in Windsor
  • 1 outbreak at a manufacturing facility in Kingsville
  • 1 outbreak at a manufacturing facility in Tecumseh

School Outbreaks

As of Wednesday, the outbreak at Corpus Christi Catholic Middle School – Central Park Athletics Campus has ended and one school remains under outbreak:

  • General Brock Public School

Community Outbreaks

As of Wednesday, the following are under outbreak:

  • Assisted Living Southwestern Ontario
  • Victoria Manor
  • Manor Lodge House

Hospital Outbreaks

As of Wednesday, there is one hospital outbreak:

  • Hotel-Dieu Grace Healthcare

The Health Unit says detailed data (case sources, outbreak numbers, etc) may not be up to date at this time due to delays with case and contact management and the high volume of recent cases.
