The Essex Region Conservation is seeking nominees who have made an environment impact.
“In this difficult and uncertain year, it’s more important than ever to celebrate those who are making important strides in environmental protection,” says Danielle Breault Stuebing, Director of Communications and Outreach Services. “During the height of the pandemic when nearly everything was closed, we heard over and over how important conservation areas and trails were to maintaining mental and physical health. This certainly highlights that while there is much we can live without, our need for nature is paramount.”
The 2020 Conservation Awards will honour and recognize those in the community who have made outstanding contributions towards improving our natural environment, sustaining and enriching the Essex Region as the Place for Life.
The annual Awards will be presented to individuals and organizations in four categories:
- The Youth Award recognizes a youth leader who has undertaken conservation projects or is engaged in addressing the climate crisis and is a student in the elementary or secondary schools of our region.
- The Education Award for excellence in conservation education programs or climate action engagement in schools, organizations, companies, youth groups, etc.
- The Volunteer Award for outstanding effort in volunteering time and services for conservation programs and projects;
- The Environmental Achievement Award for programs or projects which have enhanced the region’s sustainability in a significant way. In addition to individuals and organizations, municipalities can also be nominated for environmental achievements.
Nominations can be submitted online at https://essexregionconservation.ca/conservation-awards. Nominations close on Thursday, December 17th, 2020.
The awards will be presented at their virtual annual general meeting in January 2021.
