4 New Cases Of COVID-19, 1 Additional Death As Of Thursday In Windsor Essex

The Windsor Essex County Health Unit has confirmed 4 new cases of COVID-19 as of Thursday, bringing the local total to 2,541. They say 2,376 people locally have recovered.

Cases increased from 2,537 on Wednesday September 2nd to 2,541 on Thursday September 3rd and 70 people are currently self-isolating with COVID-19.

The Health Unit says 1 case is from non-work related travel to Michigan, 1 case is community acquired, and 2 cases are close contacts of a confirmed case.

The Health Unit is reporting one additional death due to COVID-19 as of Thursday bringing the local death toll to 74. This marks the second local COVID-19 death this week. Dr. Wajid Ahmed, Medical Officer of Health says a resident of a retirement home in her 90s passed away in hospital.

“I’d like to express my sympathy and condolences to the family at this time,” Dr. Ahmed said.

As of Thursday, the Health Unit says 17 people are hospitalized and 1 person is in the ICU with confirmed cases of COVID-19 in Windsor Essex. Eleven of the hospitalizations are listed at Windsor Regional Hospital.

New Beginnings retirement home in Leamington remains under outbreak with 6 staff cases and 21 resident cases.

Workplace Outbreaks

As of Thursday, the Health Unit says the following workplace is under outbreak (no changes compared to yesterday):

  • 1 manufacturing facility (1 in Tecumseh)

A workplace outbreak is declared when two or more employees test positive for COVID-19 within a reasonable timeline to suspect transmission in the workplace, according to the Health Unit. Officials with the Health Unit have said a workplace will only be named if a threat to the public exists.
