4 New Cases Of COVID-19 In Windsor Essex As Of Friday, Weekly Epidemiological Summary Presented

The Windsor Essex County Health Unit has confirmed 4 new cases of COVID-19 as of Friday, bringing the local total to 2,414. They say 2,243 people locally have recovered.
Cases increased from 2,410 on Thursday August 13th to 2,414 on Friday August 14th and 90 people are currently self-isolating with COVID-19.
The Health Unit says 3 of the 4 cases are close contacts of confirmed cases, and 1 case was community-acquired.
There have been no additional deaths due to COVID-19 as of Friday and the local death toll stands at 71.
As of Friday, 5 people are hospitalized with confirmed cases of COVID-19 in Windsor Essex, according to the Health Unit, and 3 hospitalizations are listed at Windsor Regional Hospital.
Three retirement homes remain under outbreak: Shoreview at Riverside (Windsor), New Beginnings (Leamington), and Augustine Villas (Kingsville).
Workplace Outbreaks
As of Thursday, the Health Unit listed the following workplaces under outbreak:
- 4 farms (2 in Kingsville and 2 in Leamington)
- 2 manufacturing facilities (1 in Windsor, 1 in Tecumseh)
As of Friday, the Health Unit says the following workplaces are under outbreak (1 less compared to yesterday):
- 4 farms (2 in Kingsville and 2 in Leamington)
- 1 manufacturing facility (1 in Windsor)
A workplace outbreak is declared when two or more employees test positive for COVID-19 within a reasonable timeline to suspect transmission in the workplace, according to the Health Unit. Officials with the Health Unit have said a workplace will only be named if a threat to the public exists.
Weekly Epidemiological Summary
Dr. Wajid Ahmed, Medical Officer of Health says Windsor-Essex has seen a decline in cases in the past week; the primary source of exposure is still through close contact with confirmed cases; hospitalizations and ICU visits are starting to decrease once again; day-over-day doubling time in Windsor-Essex is getting close to on par with the province and nationally; and the current rate of transmission (R0) is 0.8 indicating a decrease in transmission in Windsor-Essex, but it has increased slightly in the past week.
