The Constable John Atkinson Memorial Scholarship Fund has awarded $2,700 to two local students.
The fund was established in memory of Constable John Atkinson to honour his service and the ultimate sacrifice he made while protecting the citizens of Windsor and Essex County.
In 2006, Shelley Atkinson created the Constable John Atkinson Fund at the WindsorEssex Community Foundation in order to keep John’s
memory alive. A decade later, Shelley designated the fund to aid students pursuing a career in Law Enforcement.
Local students receiving scholarships are Angela Rolph pursuing Protection, Security, and Investigation at St. Clair College and Danielle Burt pursuing Protection, Security, and Investigation at St. Clair College.
An annual Golf Tournament in honour of Constable John Atkinson is held to support this fund. Due to COVID-19, the fund committee has made the difficult decision of cancelling the tournament for 2020, and it is planned to return in 2021.
