LaSalle has canceled their summer day camp program that usually takes place at the Vollmer Culture and Recreation Complex due to the directives provided by the Ontario Ministry of Health to reduce the chance of transmitting COVID-19.
“For the safety of our staff and participants, we will not be offering day camp this year,” said Joe Milicia, CAO. “With directives including physical distancing, increased cleaning standards and the expectations of consistent groups of participants and staff weekly, along with the limited range of activities that would be permitted, this greatly reduces our ability to provide a quality and engaging program.”
For the last few weeks, the Culture and Recreation Department has been offering virtual programming for adults and seniors. From fitness classes to workshops for seniors, many have tried this new type of programming and have enjoyed connecting with staff of the Vollmer Complex, and other registrants.
“During the current pandemic, like many other sectors, the recreation sector has had to shift from traditional methods and find other ways to provide our services to the community. Recreation can provide essential supports for people to manage stress, cope with challenges, and reconnect with their communities. Offering virtual programming allows staff to maintain relationships with our members and program participants,” said Patti Funaro, Recreation Manager.
Throughout the summer months, the Culture and Recreation Department will be sharing the best of day camp fun through Zoom. A morning and afternoon session will run daily featuring games, activities, stories, science and songs, and more.
Registration is free and the program will run from the week of July 6th to the week of August 10th. Register for the week and take part in the fun with some of your favourite day camp counsellors and other kids your age, once in the morning and once in the afternoon.
