The Windsor Essex County Health Unit is reporting two additional people have passed away from COVID-19 in Windsor-Essex.

“I send my regrets and condolences to the families of both of these individuals during this very difficult time. This is sad news for our community to lose two more residents in such a tragic way,” says Dr. Wajid Ahmed, Medical Officer of Health.

Officials say a female in her seventies and a male in his eighties have passed away due to complications from COVID-19. Out of respect for the families of these individuals, the Health Unit says no further details will be shared at this time.

In addition, the Health Unit is reporting a new COVID-19 outbreak for Extendicare Southwood Lakes bringing the number of local outbreaks at long term care and retirement homes to seven. The Health Unit is expected to release more information on the outbreak at their daily briefing, Tuesday morning.

Officials say the local death toll is now five.
