LaSalle isn’t the safest place in the county after all.
According to the town, Statistics Canada released their publication on Police Reported Crime Statistics in Canada 2018 and ut was in this publication, the town was ranked as having the lowest crime rate in the country.
On July 23rd, 2019, the LaSalle Police Service conducted a detailed review of the data published by Stats Canada. The review determined that the published data was inconsistent with the 2018 data supplied to Stats Canada by the LaSalle Police Service.
To ensure accuracy, the LaSalle Police Service immediately contacted Stats Canada and requested a formal review of the published data. Stats Canada has acknowledged a misrecording on their part regarding the LaSalle Police Service’s data and has taken corrective measures.
Despite this misrecording by Statistics Canada, the corrected data indicates the Town of LaSalle experienced a decrease in the number of criminal incidents in 2018 ranking ninth lowest out of 321 communities on the Overall Crime Severity Index and continues to consistently maintain one of the lowest rates of crime in the country. This shows an improvement from being tenth lowest in 2017 on the Overall Crime Severity Index to ninth lowest in 2018.
