Jaxson
Breed: Terrier Mix
DOB: March 11, 2016
Weight: 14 lbs
Sex: Male
Energy Level: low to medium energy

Requirements:
-fully secured fenced yard (no electric fence)
-no apartments
-no children under 7 years old in the home
-another calm dog in the home, must be less than 40 lbs

Pup-sonality:
Jaxson is a low-key sort of guy, happiest when he’s near his trustworthy humans. He had a very rough start to his life, this sweet little boy lived the first 3 years of his life outside on a chain through all weather conditions with no shelter and inconsistent access to food or water. His home was abusive and did not care for him as a member of the family. Jaxson was finally rescued after a neighbour contacted animal control about his horrible living conditions.

Understandably, Jaxson can be shy when he first meets you but once he gets to know and trust you, he just wants to be by your side. He is good with children (gives little kisses), but he can be startled by loud noises or sudden movements, so he would do best in a quiet home with older humans and another calm dog to keep him feeling secure and content. He is both crate-trained and house-trained. Jaxson is learning how to play with toys and his foster siblings and enjoys the company of other dogs. He loves going for walks outside and being outside while his human is doing yardwork or relaxing in the sun. If you’re looking for a calm, sweet soul to join your family, apply to adopt Jaxson.

Medical Note: When Jaxson was rescued, he tested positive for heartworm, but has since been successfully treated with immiticide in Texas in May 2019. He will require a standard heartworm test in November 2019 as follow-up. Jaxson must remain on monthly heartworm preventative for the rest of his life to ensure there is no recurrence of infection. Jaxson is one of the lucky ones as heartworm positive dogs are the first to lose their life in a high-kill shelter. Heartworm is so easily prevented and should not mean the end of an otherwise healthy dog’s life. We rescue as many as we can as they deserve to live their fullest and happiest life with humans that love and care for them.

All dogs available for adoption with Second Chance Animal Rescue Windsor-Essex come fully vaccinated, including lepto, spayed/neutered, microchipped, and heartworm tested (and are on heartworm/flea preventative while in our care). At adoption, adopters receive a 6-week free trial of pet insurance.
