It looks like a proposed pedestrian tunnel under Riverside Drive won’t be happening.
As part of the 2019 budget, City Administration is recommending that the project not move forward and the money be used elsewhere.
“There has been significant funding for the Riverfront, and various additional features have been completed with others planned over the next several years based on feedback obtained through Public Consultation. This project is not included in those plans,” the budget document says.
Administration says that with the demolition of the old 350 City Hall underway, that will result in an immediate need to proceed with the redevelopment of the City Hall Square and Civic Esplanade.
Considering this more urgent need the remaining $2,522,000 for the pedestrian tunnel is recommended to be redirected to the City Hall Square and civic Esplanade project.
City Council will debate the entire 2019 budget on April 1st and 2nd.
