The week of October 17th to 23rd is waste reduction week, and the Essex-Windsor Solid Waste Authority is sending out a challenge to reduce your ecological footprint through simple actions and activities.
They have planned daily events and activities that include giving away free battery boxes, free paper yard waste bags, free recycle boxes, and much more.
Here is a look at the events planned:
Monday, October 17th: Take Charge
Come to one of the EWSWA facilities, bring your spent batteries back and receive a free mini battery box (holds 36 spent AA batteries).
Locations: Public Drop Off Depot (Windsor), Transfer Station #2 (Kingsville), Regional Recycling Depot (County Rd. 18 in Essex).
Tuesday, October 18th: Get A Gold Star
Do you think that you’re a great recycler? Do you take pride in how neat and clean your recycle boxes look at the curb? Do you recycle absolutely everything you can?
All you A+ recyclers can now be rewarded for your efforts! The Essex-Windsor Solid Waste Authority is implementing a new recycling initiative called the “Gold Star Recycler Program”. Register for this program and an EWSWA staff will visit your recycle boxes on your recycle collection day and see just how well you are doing – if you’re doing a fantastic job, we will award you with a special limited edition ‘gold’ recycle box. Find more information here.
Wednesday, October 19th: Digital Dump
Drop off your unused or unwanted electronics at one of the EWSWA facilities and get a free recycle box. One recycle box per vehicle.
Locations: Public Drop Off Depot (Windsor), Transfer Station #2 (Kingsville), Regional Recycling Depot (County Rd. 18 in Essex).
Thursday, October 20th: Tips & Tricks
Have some great ideas on how to reduce waste? Send them to win a prize! Prizes include gift certificates, composter, green cone digester, recycle cart, etc. Tweet, Facebook, email or call them with your waste reduction tip or trick.
Friday, October 21st: Yard Work
