The Windsor Essex County Community Garden Collective and the Essex Region Conservation Authority have joined forces to implement a unique community garden in Windsor.
The new garden located on Lens Avenue property between Elsmere Avenue and Louis Avenue is approximately 7,070 square meters and will be divided into two sections. One area will have soil-producing compost beds, fruiting vines, and other produce.
“The second area will feature a series of berms and swales for water control, as well as the planting of native wildflowers, grasses and trees,” explained Caroline Biribauer, ERCA’s Outreach Coordinator. “We are pleased to partner with WECCGC on this project.”
On Saturday, June 11th, from 9am to 1pm, volunteers are invited to help plant native wildflowers and grasses at the Lens Avenue site. This event is rain or shine. Volunteers are encouraged to wear boots and long pants, and to dress for the weather. Planting equipment and gloves will be provided to all volunteers. High school students can earn community service hours. A light barbecue lunch will also be available for all volunteers.
