The Supreme Court of Canada is set to hear a case between the City of Windsor and the Canadian Transit Company, the owner of the Ambassador Bridge.

The decision was handed down Thursday morning to hear the case which has centered on what courts have jurisdiction over municipal issues.

The Canadian Transit Company own 114 properties to the west of the bridge that they have purchased over the past decade and boarded up.  Their long-term plan has been to tear them down and build a second span.

The City of Windsor alleged that the properties have not been properly maintained and under its by-laws and they issued repair orders against the Canadian Transit Company.

The Ontario Superior Court had sided with the city originally to force the bridge company to repair the homes on Indian Road, but the bridge company appealed to Federal Court which ruled that city by-laws do not apply to the Bridge.

The City appealed and Thursdays ruling means the Supreme Court of Canada will hear the case.
