The annual Emancipation Celebration, one of Windsor’s longest running events, takes place this weekend at Lanspeary Park on Saturday, August 1st and Sunday, August 2nd from 10am to 9pm.
A local grassroots committee has organized this festival commemorating the end of slavery in the British Empire and the United States.
This year’s festival features fun for the entire family. There is a children’s village with a variety of entertainers and activities including a petty zoo, pony rides and face painting. On the main stage organizers have scheduled a line-up of outstanding entertainers including The 519 Band, Guitar Army, Allison St. Martin, Velda Kelly, Nadine Deleury, Michael Geeter and Ivana.
Food vendors include Handsor Smoke (Ribs & Chicken), Vito’s Pizzeria and Black Bench Coffee Roasters.
Last year the festival welcomed nearly 2,000 visitors to the park and this year they plan to double the number of patrons.
