On Thursday at 10am, thousands of kids and adults at aquatic facilities around the world will unite to set a new global record for The World’s Largest Swimming Lesson, and Windsor is once again taking part.
This international Guinness World Record attempt takes place at pools and water parks around the globe to focus attention on the vital importance of teaching kids to swim. Tragically, drowning is the second leading cause of unintended injury-related death for children ages 1-14. Research shows that if a child does not learn to swim before the third grade, they likely never will. The World’s Largest Swimming Lesson™ was created to help spread the word that Swimming Lessons Save Lives.
Youth and adults in the Windsor-Essex area will have a chance to take part at both the Windsor International Aquatic & Training Centre and Adventure Bay Family Water Park.
Windsor Recreation and Culture will offer a 30-minute lesson free to all participants, who will also receive a certificate stating that each participant helped in setting a new world record. Participants must register ahead of time at www.reconnectwindsor.ca.
The collective world record was broken and Windsor was number one in Canada and top three among all participants in 2014.
