The City of Detroit and the Ambassador Bridge Company are swapping land to create a new riverfront park in Detroit and to make way for the bridge’s replacement span.
In an agreement announced today, the Ambassador Bridge Company will transfer 4.8 acres of prime riverfront property to the city, and will provide $5 million for park improvements.
In turn, the city of Detroit will transfer 3 acres of undeveloped parkland to the Bridge that it requires for a possible second span.
The deal also includes construction of new baseball and soccer fields, picnic and fishing areas, to begin this fall.
The Bridge Company also plans to fix up Michigan Central Station with 1,050 windows installed by December 31st.
