The Electrical Safety Authority Thursday directed electrical utilities to replace a small number of smart meters in Ontario.
ENWIN reports that there are 274 of these meters installed in Windsor, all associated with MicroFIT projects. They will be directly contacting those customers to arrange to have the replacement work completed at the earliest opportunity, at no cost to the user.
They stress that there have been no safety incidents with these meters, but they are similar in design to ones that proved to be a safety hazard. The ESA says there is a low level of risk, but are taking the precautionary measure of replacing the meters.
