Some long awaited improvements on Cabana Road for cyclists have reached a new mile stone with city administration recommending to City Council that they support the widening of the existing pavement on Cabana from Northway Avenue to Walker Road for construction of separated bike lanes. The bike lanes would include a 0.5m buffer, and would include bollards where needed and determined by a city consultant.
City administration states that the physical separation of cars and bikes was based on feedback they received from an open house that was held earlier this year.
The proposed buffers will reduce the encroachment of vehicles onto the bicycle lane, which will make them safer.
Total cost is estimated at $4,290,000.
The report goes to City Council on July 7th.
