The 9th annual Windsor Military Studies Conference takes place February 7th and 8th at the The Maj. F.A. Tilston VC Armoury located at 4007 Sandwich Street.
The Windsor Military Studies Conference is the result of collaboration among the University of Windsor Humanities Research Group, the Wilfrid Laurier University Centre for Military, Strategic and Disarmament Studies, the Essex and Kent Scottish Regiment, and the other Canadian Armed Forces units in Windsor as part of their community outreach programs.
The conference is a community-centered educational initiative that will explore the military history of Canada. Topics of presentations will include:
- Saving DDay: The Royal Winnipeg Rifles in Normandy
- Bleeding for Ypres: Wartime Culture and the Early Battles in the Ypres Salient
- The Unknown War: Germany’s Eastern Front 1914-15, David Jones in the Great War, Canadian Soldiers
- Dutch Civilians: The Challenge of Post-War Reconstruction in the Scheldte, A Canadian in the Royal Sir Force, and Data Drive Insights Into Counterterror Practices.
Vendors will be on hand with military-related books for sale. The Pipes and Drums of the Essex and Kent Scottish and the Windsor Regiment Band will perform during the lunch break.
Registration on Friday is 5:15pm to 7pm with the Keynote address at 7pm. Saturday registration is 8:30am to 9am with the opening remarks at 9am.
Conference cost is $25.00 for adults and $10.00 for students (with proper I.D). Cost includes lunch on Saturday.
