Financial woes in Amherstburg have resulted in the police chief calling in the OPP’s anti-racketeering division.
Constable Shawn McCurdy says Amherstburg Police Chief Tim Berthiaume has requested the OPP to conduct an investigation into possible wrongdoing with the financial affairs of the town. Amherstburg’s town debt stands at around $37 million.
Berthiaume contacted the OPP so that any conflicts of interest could be avoided by having Amherstburg Police investigate.
McCurdy says the OPP has agreed to handle the investigation.
