After having been rejected by Dragons Den, a local company is proving that millionaire investors don’t know everything about what women want.

Zipp Lash, a concept created by local optician Jason Carruthers, is now opening their fifth location — in LaSalle.

The company, which specializes in modern eyelash extensions that are a replacement for clumpy, ineffective mascara, has gone from a single, original location on Erie Street, to five locations and eight more in the works.

“I’m actually amazed at the demand for our services considering the soft economy” says Carruthers. “We’ve tapped into a niche or a hole in the market where people were looking for an everyday alternative to mascara.”

Carruthers says he’s seen a strong, growing demand for lashes that are suitable for the office and everything in between.

“Our lashes look real enough to be worn every day and because of the high volume we do we are able to keep the cost very low.”

Zipp Lash is primarily marketed towards women between 30 and 60 but Carruthers says the company has had clients as young as 16 and as old as 84.

The company’s new LaSalle location opens at noon on Friday December 6th at 1468 Front Road. Carruthers says the first 50 people will win lash prizes including one grand prize of free lashes for an entire year.

Zipp Lash also has locations in Windsor, Tecumseh, Kingsville and London.
