Detour route due to the closure of the North Talbot Road Bridge

The Government of Ontario is extending the submission deadline for the interim report on concrete girders used on the Rt. Hon. Herb Gray Parkway to September 30th.

The extension will allow a group of leading experts retained earlier this month to expand their study to examine additional girders of the parkway that require further evaluation. Officials say that the girders will be removed if their safety and durability cannot be assured and compliance concerns cannot be addressed.

The North Talbot Road Bridge is being closed to traffic on August 29th, based on findings from the review process. It will be closed to traffic during the rest of the review, with a detour route clearly marked along Howard Avenue, Highway 3 and Walker Road.

Travelling under this structure is safe as the girders in question are self-supporting with no load.

“We understand the impacts of this temporary closure to travellers and we are doing everything we can to minimize these impacts during closure. We appreciate the patience of the public while we undergo this review.” said Teresa Piruzza, MPP, Windsor West

To date, the expert reviewers have heard from the Ministry of Transportation, Infrastructure Ontario, and the Windsor Essex Mobility Group.

All findings will be made public when the review is complete.
